March Motor Madness Tournament: Mini Wedges Edge Quarter Midgets 195-185
The Final 4 of the 2026 March Motor Madness Tournament kicked off with a blockbuster match-up between the inaugural tournament champion, the Mini Wedges (2023), and the defending champions, the Quarter Midgets which saw a total of 380 votes cast as the Mini Wedges held on late over the Quarter Midgets for the 195-185 victory. It was the closest vote either class experienced during the 2026 tournament.
Throughout the tournament, the Mini Wedges and Quarter Midgets easily coasted to victory over their opponent, and the support each class has received during the month easily made the winner of this match-up a clear favorite to win their second title. While the MCR Dwarf Cars and Street Stocks will certainly have something to say in the final round, the amount of votes it took to win this battle shows the effort it will take to become the overall winter champion.
Entering the Final 4, the Mini Wedges outscored their opponents 168-28. The Quarter Midgets outscored theirs 117-11. After their battle, the Mini Wedges have earned 363 votes to their opponents 213.
In total, 4,569 people saw the voting post which brought exposure for two classes that are foundational to the health and well-being of short track racing. The Mini Wedges have gained popularity as a starting class for hundreds, if not thousands, of kids across the nation as the class continues to grow, especially in the Midwest. The Quarter Midget history is well documented in the nation as many NASCAR drivers, current and past, raced their first laps in the Quarter-Midget scene. Carson Hocevar, a current NASCAR driver and Little Kalamazoo Speedway graduate, logged many laps in the Quarter Midgets on his way to the big stage. Both classes serve as feeder programs to the big cars for the future stars of racing.
Of the 4,569 Meta accounts who saw the post come across their News Feed during the day, the post was viewed 12,154 times.
The Final 4 continues today at 10 A.M. as the #5 Street Stocks take on the #1 Midwest Classic Racers. Should the Dwarf Cars win, they’ll have a rematch with the Mini Wedges from the inaugural tournament in 2023 and seek to win their first championship after they’ve finished as the Runner-Up in 2023 and 2025. The Street Stocks have never advanced to the championship match.
