Race Week 1: Race Cars Return In Southwest Michigan
Race Week 1 has arrived to Southwest Michigan as the Kalamazoo Speedway opens their gates for the first time this Saturday for an Open Practice session. Drivers will be able to take two opportunities through timed practice sessions to shake down their car and prepare it for the upcoming season. Pit Gates open at 12:00 P.M. with the first cars on the track at 1 P.M. in rotating sessions. The track is hot until 5 P.M. Spectators are invited to join with free grandstand admission.
Down at the Russell’s M-40 Speedway, the Great Lakes Racing Promotions leased event kicks off outdoor weekly racing in Jones, Michigan as the Ohio Wheelman Super Stocks make their visit to the 3/8ths mile. The Midwest Dirt Compact Touring Series also has their first event, on asphalt, and the Hartford Speedway and Russell’s M-40 Speedway Crown Vics join forces for a Dirt v. Asphalt battle. Any Crown Vics participating in the event must meet either the Super Trooper rules from Hartford or the Factory Ford expectations for M-40. Admission is $20 for adults with rotating hot laps sessions throughout the afternoon. Racing begins at 5 P.M.
Top Row Racing Media is sponsoring the Crown Vic Feature with $1,000 added in money throughout the field. Third through ninth received a $100 addition to the original payout making it $205 and up to win. First and second each received $150 for the total of $550 to win. Ron Verash also has bonus money and lap money on the line.
