Hunter Pierman

For the first few years of Mini Wedge racing, Hunter Pierman spent most of his racing days on the dirt track located inside the Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway and later watched as his dad, Jerry Pierman, raced for championships in the Template Late Models.

Coming from a championship racing tree can sometimes lead to pressure, especially when there's been a lot of success at the race track. Especially in a Mini Wedge division that has grown steadily over the last few years, there's more competition now than ever before making it harder to win races, and sometimes it takes time for younger racers to see that there's bigger things to racing than wins---though wins are certainly fun and important, too.

Steadily, Pierman has shown growth on the track, and his 2025 season was his best yet in the Senior class at the Kalamazoo Speedway Mini Wedge Series events where his worst finish was 10th place on August 31st. That was the only time in 2025 Pierman placed outside of the Top 5, and in 10 races at Kalamazoo, he took home first place seven times. Other than the August 31st race, Pierman took home third in the season opener and second on July 13th after a string of three feature wins in a row.

The Kalamazoo Mini Wedge program under the leadership of Kenny Head has proved to be a building ground for successful racers, and that much was on display at The Rumble in Fort Wayne. The event draws Mini Wedge racers from all around Indiana and Michigan, and many of the drivers at The Rumble haven't raced with each other which adds a wrinkle on top of the indoor conditions.

Pierman fell ill which ended his weekend early, but that was after a successful Friday night. He was the fastest Wedge in the Senior class qualifying with a 9.924 lap time with all other competitors in the 10 second range. In a stacked A-Feature with some wild moments, Pierman avoided the early chaos and worked his way to the victory.

Like father like son, and each won their final respective race of the 2025 season which included a Super Shoe sweep.
