Lukas Waber

When it comes to Quarter Midget racing, Lukas Waber has established himself as one of the top drivers around in his young, but experienced career.

For Rumble in Fort Wayne fans and competitors, the Waber name is well known as Lukas is one of the top racers any time he's on the track. That comes with experience too with championships at the Capital Quarter Midget Association in Lansing, Michigan, as well as championships at the Buckeye Indoor event  and Midwest Thunder in 2024. His Midwest Thunder championships include the Light 160, and he was named as the Senior Driver of the Year.

Success hasn't always come easy, and for racers of any age, the highs and lows can be overwhelming at times. There are some days at the track where so much can go wrong that it's not about, "When's the next race," but it quickly becomes, "Is it over yet?" For the Waber team, they had quite the wild day in 2023 at a Capital Quarter Midget Midwest Thunder event where Lukas won a Heat race after he started third, but a DQ at the scales meant he'd have to work his way back into contention after he was a 1/2lb light. In the B-Feature, he started last and came all the way to the front to win. That put him in the main event, and despite a less than ideal starting position, he worked his way forward to win his first ever Midwest Thunder Feature.

It's so easy to quit, and for highly competitive individuals, there can be a temptation to throw in the white flag and move on rather than face defeat; there's also the flip of the coin where it's better to push forward and learn from the moment. In the Waber stable, there's no quit.

For Lukas and his team, the life lessons on the track also helps them off the track. Competitive sports helps to create a growth mindset where goals are set, and it takes work to achieve. There are lessons to take from a loss, perhaps even more than a win. Even when things don't go as planned, Waber puts in the work it takes to race the next lap with sportsmanship and respect in mind.
