Michael Langdon is no stranger to short track racing, but for asphalt fans in the area, he may not be as known until it's Kalamazoo Super Shoe time and his UMP Dirt Modified shows up to burn rubber around the World's Fastest 3/8ths Mile.
Langdon first started racing in 2005 at Butler Speedway. Langdon found success early in his racing career as he claimed Rookie of the Year first in Street Stocks, then he later duplicated his efforts in the UMP Modifieds. In fact, a decade after he began his racing career, 2015 provided perhaps one of his most memorable moments.
During the UMP Modified Feature, Langdon found himself in a battle with NASCAR legend Kenny Wallace. Wallace is hard to beat on dirt and owns several feature wins and championship accolades, but at Butler, Langdon had home field advantage and parked his UMP Mod in Victory Lane.
Langdon has raced just about everything in his career. He started in Pure Stocks before he moved to Sportsman. His Late Model career was short as the track dropped them, so he found himself in the Modifieds. Then, in 2024, Langdon went all in on asphalt as he raced in the then new Limited Late Model class at Kalamazoo.
His favorite event to compete in each year is the Kalamazoo Super Shoe, and in the past, he'd rock out with his UMP Modified on the asphalt which always caught the attention of race fans. That made the 2025 Super Shoe fun this year as he raced a dirt Modified on the asphalt for the first time since 2023 and held his own in the RWD C-Feature where he took fourth.
The 2026 season has some unknowns on exactly where Langdon will race as he recovers from an injury, and his team operates on a very tight budget. Although their budget is tight, that doesn't stop the team from enjoying a night at the races nor has it impacted his competitive spirit.
