Nick “The Ace” Layman

When it comes to Front Wheel Drive racing in Michiana and beyond, Nick "The Ace" Layman has been a force from the start, but Front Wheel Drive racing isn't where Layman got his start.
In the time before Compact racing, The Ace found himself racing Enduros. What many fans may not always realize, and sometimes racers themselves, is that there are multiple pathways to turning left and going fast. There might be traditional pathways such as Quarter Midgets, or now Mini Wedges, on up. Yet, there are many who first race in the Night of Destruction scene or Enduros and look to do more. After years of Enduro racing, Layman shifted focus to the Cyber Stocks.
Layman is one of those drivers who rarely has a bad night. He may not always win the race, but his nose is right in there chasing checkers. Whether it's been battles with Matthew Elsey Jr. at Kalamazoo or outsiders like Will Slaughter who sometimes make the trip over to Kalamazoo, Layman has raced them and even aced them a few times. Competition makes drivers who perform at a high level better, and Layman isn't afraid of the challenge.
Layman has finished as a Top 100 NASCAR Weekly driver on four different occasions, and he has finished in the Top 10 throughout his career in local division standings. Layman has won many Heat races in his career as well as Features.
For the 2025 season, Layman had another banner year at Kalamazoo as he finished third in the final point standings. Although Layman was so close numerous times to Victory Lane, his battle with Elsey Jr. made each Front Wheel Drive Feature well worth the watch.
It's been 19 years and counting for Layman, and "The Ace" has no plans to slow down any time soon. With a new season on the horizon, Layman knows there's always a chance when he takes the track to park in Victory Lane as one of the top Front Wheel Driver racers around, and that's something he's proven time and time again in his lengthy and successful racing career.
