Ron Verash

𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩

In a legendary career that spans decades and many roles, Ron Verash has been a historian and advocate for short track racing as he's traveled hundreds of thousands of miles---maybe even millions---penned results, interviewed thousands of drivers, and snapped hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of photos. He has photo books which covers the history of many drivers and tracks from across the nation, and one can sure bet he has photos of tracks that goes back to their very beginnings or at least covers their many eras captured in time.

Verash has dedicated so much to short track racing, and it's his advocacy and ability to connect with so many that his impact has been felt far and wide. He has thousands of stories to tell, and his stories can flow naturally from one topic into another because of the vast knowledge he's captured over many decades in racing. Likewise, his credibility and passion is one of many reasons he was able to save the South Bend Motor Speedway from permanent closure many years ago after Mike Bird decided it was time to sell the track.

With a group of volunteers, Verash helped to organize a Save the Speedway event which drew more than 200 cars and many spectators with the requirement that at least one race a year must be held for the track to remain a speedway. His efforts paved the way for more chapters to be written in the long history of racing in South Bend.

Verash has also held mall events for drivers to show off their cars at the former Concord Mall which were very popular back in their day. Verash has also hosted racer reunions at area businesses which included interviews with legendary drivers, current stars, and area promoters. Verash follows the Michiana Vintage Racers as their announcer, and he has introduced many to Mt. Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Indiana. Fans can directly interact with Verash as he often has a set-up with items for the kids, picture books, and picture frames for everyone to walk down memory lane, and perhaps, come across a family member's photo from back in the day.
