To ocean goers, Jaws has arrived, but at the Arena of Destruction, the stillness of the fans and silence of their sounds means the New Paris Shark is near. Unlike the screams of fear in the Jaws movie, the cheers of applause and appreciation sends decibel levels to the sky when the front teeth appear in the track entrance and the famous fin races out.
The New Paris Shark was born out of a Poker game with a neighbor who talked about Night of Destructions. Hapner took interest, bought a 1987 Olds Delta 88, and stripped the tank down to the bones. He worked on the car at a dealership, and one of his colleagues offered some paint they had around. Originally brown, the only paint available was gray. Soon, Hapner made a trip to the body shop and soon had fins and a tail. Then, the teeth appeared. It was then The Shark arrived.
A running joke between competitors nowadays is that The Shark shows up whenever he wants to with all of the success Hapner has had. In fact, The Shark has one of the most loyal fan bases at New Paris. But, The Shark originally came in on a U-Haul Trailer at a time Hapner signed up for every event. After the car took all of the chaos thrown its way on night one, Hapner was instantly hooked.
In the years since his arrival, Hapner has established many friendships in the pits with competitors all around. In fact, many of his friends, who are competitors on the track, will take social media by storm in the lead up to an event with various shots back and forth as they announce their intentions to hunt for sharks in the Arena of Destruction. Likewise, The Shark reminds them of the many fish tales he's heard along the way, and that their bark is no match for his bite.
In recent times, The Shark has given birth to Baby Sharks. Faster, smaller, and easier to swim around the chaos, The Shark and Baby Shark always has fans on their feet ready to cheer.
Chaos is like bait, and The Shark is ready to hunt.
