For many fans, a yellow flag can bring some excitement because that often means something didn't go right (or left). After all, while many fans enjoy the race action, there are others who like the carnage that can come with high speeds and tight racing.

When the yellow displays at Kalamazoo, and a tow truck is necessary, that's Eddie Benjamin's time to shine. The tow truck driver might not always be popular with fans as they're often a behind the scenes position, but it's a position which allows someone to contribute to the sport of short track racing in their own way.

What many might not know about Eddie is his passion for racing. He loves this. Similar to his Kalamazoo Track Services teammates, he dedicates long hours at the track that can extend well beyond the final checkered flag. Sometimes, that includes use of the tow truck to help a driver get their car loaded onto the trailer if it's severely damaged.

When Eddie isn't behind the wheel of a tow truck, he can be found at the Kalamazoo Mini Wedge Series program where he's a member of the team. At the Rumble in Fort Wayne, Eddie lined-up the Wedges, did safety checks, and assisted the Rumble staff with the Mini Wedge needs to continue the program moving. At Kalamazoo, he can be found in the flag stand where he officiates with the same level of professionalism that the future racers of tomorrow will experience in the big cars. That's one of the foundational components of the Kalamazoo program is that they're being mentored and coached not only to grow as a racer today, but that their growth continues well beyond the Mini Wedges with successful careers in the big cars many watch on Friday and Saturday night.

Benjamin's contributions to the Mini Wedge program and to a Friday night at The Zoo are not unnoticed. Not only did his connections with the kids stand out at The Rumble where he provided key directions and guidance, his passion and dedication stood out to many observers.

You might even say, he's hooked on this amazing thing we call short track racing.
