Jacob Newman

Jacob Newman has been racing since 2000, and in his years of racing, he's earned respect from many of his competitors.

Known as Hulkster, Newman joined forces with Tim Lyon, Brian Barden, and later his son, Andre, and together they've established TBJ Racing as one of the most successful stables in Mid-Michigan. Newman claimed the 2016 Spartan Speedway (Corrigan Oil) Pony Stock Championship, and several years later earned the 2023 Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway  Port Stock B-Feature. Considering how strong the Port Stock class was in 2023 and 2024, that was no easy feat. Team member Brian Barden also claimed his own championship in 2024 which kept the B crown in the stable.

Although there have been many wins for Newman, one of the most emotional might have come this past October at the Springport Michigan Cup. At the event, the track remembered long-time announcer Sean Sprague's brother Ian who lost his life a few weeks prior. Ian Sprague raced at Springport, and Newman and Ian both attended school together with Sean at Mason High School.

In a stacked Port Stock B-Feature race, Newman started at the tail end of the longest line, and he worked his way through the field which also included his teammates and several drivers from Motorhead Miller Mafia Racing. Essentially, the B-Feature was stacked with talent who've won all around Michigan at places like Kalamazoo, Corrigan, Galesburg, Owosso, and in Northwest Indiana. But back on the home turf, Newman found himself up front after a hard battle with Ashley Chalfant and a fast charging Braydyn Loop to park in Victory Lane once again.

In Victory Lane, Sprague and Newman embraced in an emotional moment, and the team once again celebrated on a front stretch they've parked on many times in the past. It was Newman's second win of the season as his first came at Owosso on June 14th.

As son Andre grows in his own career, Newman is a role model for how a dedication to the sport and an earned respect from fellow racers can go a long way to a long and successful racing career.
