Keith Reed
𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩
For more than two decades, Keith "Skeeter" Reed has been a part of the Kalamazoo Speedway family, but at the end of the 2025 season, Reed retired as one of the many icons to grace The Zoo for so long.
While Skeeter, as he's best known to many, did not race a car, he loved to be at the track and had done so since a young age. In fact, he even built a car, but someone else drove it. Instead, for many years, Reed raced in the Lawnmower scene that used to dominate the region with events held all around which included at the Kellogg Arena. Later, other family members joined Reed on the Lawnmower and raced together.
At Kalamazoo, Reed has been a significant part of the race day operations, and many fans will likely recognize the famous red Jeep Reed always drove. For drivers, Reed was one of the first few faces they saw as they entered the Kalamazoo Speedway for their pit parking assignment. With so many spots in the infield, and haulers taking more space, every attention to detail matters, and Reed helped manage every spot.
During the races, Reed was ready to go when a push was needed, and he too helped behind the scenes in many ways fans would likely never recognize. Whether that involved preparation for race day, painting lines, fueling vehicles, or buttoning up the last few items, Reed was always someone that Kalamazoo could count on.
When Gary Howe announced his retirement in 2025, the clock ticked for many others. For long, a group planned to go out together after so many years as the faces of The Zoo, and Reed knew it was time. Although he had planned to retire earlier, Howe always talked him back into one more season. Skeeter does not plan to be a stranger in his retirement, and he may once again be around the Kalamazoo Speedway in the future. He's been talked into it before. For now, he has plans to restore the old red jeep with his son and bring new life back to a vehicle he knows the ins and outs of after so many years.
Thank you Skeeter for all of your years of dedicated service to the Kalamazoo Speedway!
